Friday Late Post - "Twilight Racing"
Today was a VERY good day at the track! With a 2:45 first post and the last race not set to go off until around 7:30 pm I thought we might get to run under the lights, but at 7:30 pm the sun was still shining brightly! In the opener I liked Another Blue, who was listed as the 8/5 program favorite. She'd been out three times in MSW company and had twice run 60+ speed figures. You could dismiss the two-back race when she ran poorly by looking at the winner....My Miss Sophia. She exited that race to win a Grade 2 in New York and just last weekend was second best in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks! Another Blue was sent off at odds-on of 2/5. She tracked the leaders into the stretch, dueled for about 1/8th of a mile and then drew clear late to make me 1-for-1 to start the day.
I only had the minimum so I only cashed out for $7, but hey....a win's a win. I passed the next two races (my top pick finished third and then won as the 8/5 favorite). In the 4th my pick scratched. The fifth was the "race of the day" to me. My top selection was #3 Greek Life. He was one of two entries in this race that had Churchill 40% Club trainers with qualifying angles. For 'Life trainer Steve Margolis had won at a HUGE 57% over the last two spring seasons with any runner entered for a tag at less than $40K. He looked to have the advantage over the other in here, Brotherhood Singer who had never run for a tag and went out for trainer Gary Simms who was a CD 40% trainer. But I was willing to go against him because 'Singer had not even hit the board since December 2012! Greek Life stalked the leader, had a duel nearly the length of the stretch and it was a head-bobbing PHOTO FINISH! On HRTV they first called it for the other horse, but then one guy said, "wait a minute, if you look right on the finish line, it looks like the horse on the outside, the 2, has his head down at exactly the right moment." I thought so too, and that was the official order of finish!
Best of all, Greek Life was 5/1 and I'd doubled the bet! The mutual payout was $12.20 which meant I was cashing for over $60! WHOOOO HOOOOO. I passed the 6th, the first two-year-old race of the meet (but I tabbed the winner on top as the 3/2 favorite). The 7th was my BET of the DAY! I had seen Kamchatka run in his last and he set all the pace to deep stretch before being outfinished. Today he dropped in class for Michael Maker. But this wasn't the main draw - what led me to make a prime-time investment was that today Kamchatka was third off a layoff, and Maker is a Churchill Downs 40% Club member scoring an amazing 64% with runners third off the shelf! Kamchatka ran to his odds and my handicapping. He was under a tight hold stalking the leader to the top of the leader and then blew by as M-U-C-H the best.
Cashed for over $30! Three in a row! My last two bets ran off the board, but for the day I'd won three of five - a huge 60% win average. I cashed tickets for over $100 and was able to keep over $50 in profits. What a great day!
